THE COMPLETE ORGAN
WORKS OF JEANNE DEMESSIEUX Thanks to an avid organ CD customer, we now present to you this unique and rare recording of the complete organ works of Jeanne Demessieux, longtime at the Madeleine Church in Paris. Eclectic and reverential are words that best describes this unique organ music and played by Pierre Labric who was well known as organist at the St. Ouen Church in Rouen, Normandy. This Cavaillé-Coll Organ is one of the largest in France and is one of the best. Two works were recorded at the Cathedral of historic town of Angoulême near the west coast of France. The total time of this 2 CD set is 2 hours and 24 minutes!

THE FOUR
ORGANS AT THE FREIBURG CATHEDRAL There were two LPs issued from the Freiburg Cathedral with E., Power Biggs playing all four organs simultaneously. The first one with Bach Organ works has been available for some time on CD. This LP has not until now. It is a unique collection of short works Biggs recorded earlier within "The Art of the Organ" and the Famous Organs in Europe series also available in teh Haydn House Organ Loft Collection. The effect of all this music being played with four organs is truly spectacular. This is a must for all Biggs fans. Listen!

THE GREAT ORGAN AT
THE MORMON TABERNACLE |

This recording has always fascinated us since it was released. Columbia put aside the Biggs projects somewhat and went Utah to record the massive 11,000 pipe Mormon Tabernacle Organ for a program of rather esoteric organ music for the mid 1950's. The Vierne Maestoso was used often for radio spots as the Mozart Requiem and O Fortuna are used today on TV. The recorded sound is full-bodies and clean as taken form a near mint "6 eye" Columbia LP. As the Tabernacle seats 8,000! and the organ is so massive, the original mono sound is too focused wanting more sense of aural space. While re-mastering, we experimented with limited stereo effects from large to small. The results were spectacular with a setting just above minimal not taking away anything from the original mono sound. We believe, out of experience, that the arch purists among you will declare, Bravissimo! with this sonic improvement. Listen!

This transfer to CD features some of the earlier and rare recordings of Bach Organ Music with E. Power Biggs. It precedes his Bach Royal Instrument Series recordings in Symphony Hall, Boston, neither duplicating any of those great recordings of a year or so later also available on page 3 of the Organ Loft catalog. The Columbia LP source number is LM 4097 but an unusual and better blue label pressing from Canada than any of the same that was sold in the US. This pressing has better surfaces and no muddied bass which plagued those early US versions thereby making this "labor of love" transfer much more easy and features tow of Bach's greatest organ works, the "St. Anne" and the Great Fantasia and Fugue in G Minor. Don't let this Biggs CD pass you by!

REUBKE: Sonata “The 94th Psalm” |

Thanks to another intense organ music collector who has kept his LP's in mint condition, this incredible LP has come our way. Unique here is that the transfer to CD was carefully made sealed LP! The source, know especially for its full-bodied recording efforts, has produced a recording with incredible dynamic range and quiet LP surfaces requiring little "tinkering" in order to produce a noise-free transfer. The low end pipes demand a subwoofer to reproduce the clean distortion free bass of the Westminster Abbey Organ etched on this LP. Preston need not be left out here as he gives his all with this organ music, performances considered to be at the very top. If you are not familiar with either Reubke or Reger, this CD will be you best introduction to their organ music. High Quality MP3 Sample here IN STEREO

FRANZ LISZT

| The massive Hull City Hall Pipe organ in England is perfect for Liszt's Organ Music. As above, a sealed LP from the same sources. Recording in the mid 1960's before more recent updates on this instrument provides historical perspectives as Simon Preston let's all loose in these Liszt performances. There is not any senseless and frantic playing making it all honest and perfect in every way and supported by wonderful sound with deep, visceral bass ("gut") and clean highs. A long-times, since passed friend of us here, (who recorded the Hammond Castle Organ many times - we posses those superb master tapes!), once said about these Franz Liszt works, "The fugues of each work sound like skeleton dances!" In the context of many Liszt compositions, this comment, not only humorous but to the point. .
