The last project, cut short by Max Goberman's sudden death in Vienna in 1962, was these incredible Haydn Symphonies recordings. He wanted to record all of them with the same Vienna musicians who had played and recorded Haydn with Hermann Scherchen and incorporate the Viennese musical traditions of that time. Was he successful in his quest?  Absolutely!  These recordings may be more "original" than many of the over-studied and picked-over, period instrument, Haydn symphony recordings of today.  CBS's Odyssey label issued some of these Goberman Haydn recordings in the late 60's with poor sound, dooming that reissue project from the start. Worst of all, the center channel of the original session 3 channel masters was "held back"  thereby depriving the listener of much of the woodwind and brass detail that made the original LRM - Max Goberman's own Library of Recorded Masterpieces - LP releases so unique and used here for the transfer sources.
