TCHAIKOVSKY: The Nutcracker Ballet (complete)
Antal Dorati conducts the Minneapolis Symphony in Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker". This release comes to you after countless requests to put our restoration talents on this master Mercury Living Presence recording and to follow the our highly successful release of Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty". Rolf Reinhardt Bamberg SymphonyHANDEL: Concerti Grossi, Opus 3 (complete)*
HANDEL: Concerto Grosso, "Alexander's Feast"*
HANDEL: Overtures to Terpsichore, Rodelinda, Theseo, Ariadne, Ezio, Jeptha, Il Pastor Fido, and Alexander's Feast
* IN STEREOPerfect, sensitive performances of the Opus 3 Concertos as recorded in Stereo in 1959. This is one of the first and certainly, a very successful attempt to be authentic with recorders, baroque oboes and bassoons. Wenzinger later recorded all Handel's Opus 6 Concertos as well as the Organ Concertos which continue to be available officially. This Opus 3 complete is one of the best ever recorded. The Overtures with Rolf Reinhardt were our first introduction to these works, setting new standards in the mid 1950's.

BIZET: Symphony in C Major
SIBELIUS: Lemminkäinen Suite
1. Lemminkäinen and the Maidens of Saari; 2. Lemminkäinen in Tuonela
3. Swan of Tuonela; 4. Lemminkäinen's Return
RACHMANINOV: Vocalise
The Bizet is what can be called a buffer to the Sibelius Lemminkäinen Suite which is four sections of some of the most powerful and emotionally charged music ever composed. Perfect for Ormandy and his Orchestra of the early 50's? Absolutely. The orchestra is lush as can be yet with a raw force that has never been duplicated elsewhere. The familiar "Swan of Tuonela" is the third section of the suite, kind of a breather for what precedes and what follows. The Swan makes much more sense surrounded by its musical companions of the suite. This is an absolute "must have CD" taken from blue label and 6-eye Columbia LPs. Ormandy/PO buffs must take notice. Oh yes, the Bizet and the Rachmaninov are first rate also. See p. 22 of catalog for more Ormandy SIbelius.$12.00 per CD
Eduard van Beinum Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam
BEETHOVEN: Symphony Nº 2 in D Major
BRAHMS: Academic Festival and Tragic Overtures*
The Van Beinum, Beethoven 2nd is concert performance which contains elements that are sorely missed in the session recording of same. Sound is good mono live "sound" of the early 50's with that woodwind, brass and hall sound we have come to enjoy from this conductor and orchestra. The Overtures, which have been given more than enough exposure here, are the stereo versions which were not included in the Brahms Symphonies Set from Philips Dutch Masters. Both Brahms Overtures were taken form a underplayed Epic stereo LP. * IN STEREO $12.00 per CDEdith Farnadi, piano
LISZT: Les Années de Pèlerinage (complete)
The revelatory Edith Farnadi recording of "les Années" of Franz Liszt was the first complete recording of this music ever issued on LPs. Included are the three often forgotten "Venezia and Napoli" sections of the second year. Sound is quite good for the 50s; better than most of any domestic recordings of the decade. the Hungarian, Edith Farnadi was a Liszt specialist and trained in her native land. Her playing, possesses a sensitivity of purpose that is unmatched. $20.00 / 2 CD SETDEUTSCHE

More Munch/BSO. Truly a very intense performance with all the recording problems cured including bad splices and balances between orchestra and piano.
