Leopold Stokowski, Conductor Jean Martinon,  Conductor* Chicago Symphony Orchestra	KHACHATURIAN: Symphony Nº 3 for Orchestra, Organ and 15 Trumpets RIMSKY-KORSAKOFF: Russian Easter Overture MEMDELSSOHN: A Midsummers Night’s Dream - Incidental Music*               Overture, Scherzo, Nocturne and Wedding March Stokowski has achieved here a sonic blockbuster with the 3rd Symphony of Khachaturian and the familiar Russian Easter Overture of Rimsky-Korsakoff.  Worry not, there is no use of a baritone solo as was the case in an earlier Stokowski recording of this familiar overture, all with incredible brass and low end effects.  The Martinon Mendelssohn is a rare recording and demos wonderful playing especially from the CSO brass. Jean Martinon Conductor Chicago Symphony Orchestra	MARTINON: Symphony Nº 4, Op. 53 (“Altitudes”) MENNIN: Symphony Nº 7 in One Movement (“Variation-Symphony”) ROUSSEL: Bacchus et Ariane Suite No. 2 These CSO/Martinon recordings have be on the high priority list for quite a while due to countless requests. Securing a decent LP pressing was difficult.  The Martinon and Mennin Symphonies provide very interesting listening, more so now, as we have improved the pinched dynamic range to more realistic levels and balanced out the stereo channels which were badly off-center in places.  The outcome is awesome!  As for the Roussel, the source is a stereo reel tape which has also been improved sonically,  truly a knockout performance!	$12.00 per CD   STEREO High Quality MP3 PRO sample here

Arthur Fiedler Conductor Boston Pops Orchestra	OFFENBACH: Gaîté Pasisienne (1947 Recording) CHOPIN: Les Sylphides Many of us first listened to "Gaîté Parisienne" by way of this this first Boston Pops / Fiedler recording of it. It is, of course not the sonic blockbuster recorded remake of 1954 but is better played overall with more punch and purpose and is remastered on CD with much improved sound.  The Chopin, recorded in 1946 is the Peter Bodge and Leroy Anderson arrangement. Charles Munch Conductor Boston Symphony Orchestra	RAVEL  Daphnis et Chloé - Complete      Recorded in Symphony Hall, Boston, 1961 - From an RCA STEREO tape  Charles Munch recorded The Ravel Daphnis and Chloé twice for RCA Victor: in 1955 and in 1961.  The 1955 version, recorded in stage in Symphony Hall, Boston,  is readily available on CD and has been for nearly 20 years, released several times with the latest one being the incredible transfer on RCA SACD by Soundmirror in Boston.  Securing the the more recent RCA recording is another matter entirely.  It was never issued beyond the 1961 LP release and to many, it  is the preferred version and was recorded in 1961 on the floor of Symphony Hall with the spacious acoustic in tact and with wide and deep stereo imaging.   The dynamic range is better as well.   The performance is super Munch/BSO.   We are grateful to an avid Haydn House customer for providing us with the super rare reel-to-reel RCA commercial tape to make the transfer to CD.	$12.00 per CD   High Quality MP3 PRO sample here STEREO from reel tape

Gennadi Rozhdestvensky Conductor Moscow Radio Large Symphony Orchestra	TCHAIKOVSKY  Symphony Nº 4 in F Minor, Op. 36 Symphony Nº 5 in E Minor, Op. 64 Symphony Nº 6 in B Minor, Op. 74 “Pathétique”  As with the Manfred Symphony listed below, Haydn House offers this 2 CD set of the Tchaikovsky Symphonies Nos. 4, 5, and 6.  They are full blooded Russian performances yet void of any extended sorrow and sentiment giving you a good chance to get involved in these highly charged Soviet renditions with incredible, blood-boiling brass playing as heard in the mp3 audio file. Dynamic range limitations have been improved in these transfers from near perfect Melodya discs along with some needed bass.  The end result is much closer to what Rozhdestvensky heard and and thereby restores the sonic intentions of the orchestra and conductor. Gennadi Rozhdestvensky Conductor Moscow Radio Large Symphony Orchestra	TCHAIKOVSKY: Manfred Symphony   When we released the Borodin and Rachmaninoff CD listed below, requests came in for us to find the Rozhdestvensky, Tchaikovsky Manfred.  A search came up with one Melodya LP copy available in Romania!  It arrived soon enough and the LP is in near mint condition.  The recording itself has dynamics range problems along with hum. These problems are now gone and the transfer is spectacular to complement this wonderful, ultra-Russian performance.  The conductor, as it states on the back of the record jacket, plays the pipe organ at the end.  The spacious acoustics are perfectly captured too.	$12.00 per CD   High Quality MP3 PRO sample here STEREO

Eduard van Beinum,  Conductor Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam	BRAHMS: Symphony Nº 4 in E  Minor, Op. 98 J. C.  BACH: Symphony Nº 2 in B Flat Major, Op. 18                          Symphony Nº 4 in D Major, Op. 18     These three works conducted by Eduard van Beinum are at the very top of the list and have been rather neglected since they appeared in this country on Epic LPs during the late 1950's. The Brahms is filled with the old and now banished Concertgebouw Orchestra sonic signature and the J.C. Bach Symphonies are perfect gems under Van Beinum's hand.  The mp3 excerpts will also reveal the perfect phrasing throughout and the wonderful oboe solo work of Haakon Stotijn, first oboe in the COA back then.  The sound is first rate too. Max Goberman Conductor The Vienna Radio Chorus The Vienna New Symphony Ellen Klein, soprano Sonja Drachsler, contralto Kurt Equiluz, tenor Leo Heppe, bass	BEETHOVEN Symphony Nº 8 in F Major, Op. 93 The Maelzel Canon   Leonore Overture Nº 1, Op. 138 "Becalmed Sea and "A Prosperous Voyage"  Fidelio Overture Op. 72      Being a student of Fritz Reiner at Curtis, then a violinist in the Philadelphia Orchestra, Max Goberman turned to Broadway during its golden era of the 50's. He premiered West Side Story among other hits.  He then founded the NY Sinfonietta and set to work to record all the Vivaldi and Corelli Concertos, the Bach Brandenburgs, etc., then on to Vienna to record all the Haydn Symphonies.  His sudden death ended the Haydn project with but 41 of these symphonies recorded along with a few overtures. (All available here).  He also recorded Beethoven, Brahms Mozart, and more Bach.  This CD is his Beethoven efforts and they are wonderfully played and well recorded but poorly pressed on LP when issued.  We fixed the problems and captured all the good sound sans intrusions.  The Beethoven 8th here could rank among the best ever. Bogatyryev)                 FROM REEL-TO-REEL STEREO TAPE This elusive Istomin / Ormandy recording has been taken by the horns and restored from top to bottom with hum removed and near sub sonic podium foot stomps and channel balances adjusted and lower mid bass improved to 21st century sonic standards. The result is thrilling, giving a new life to this wonderful performance.  Here it is once again. The patched together Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 7!  It's a mid 1950's creation from fragments left by the composer which were used in such works as the 3rd. Paul Paray, Conductor Detroit Symphony	FRANCK: Symphony in D Minor WAGNER: Ride of the Valkyries, Lohengrin Preludes 1 & 3,  Die Meistersinger Prelude to Act I, Tannhäuser Overture One of the most powerful Franck D Minor's ever recorded. Incredible low brass and power giving a sense that this is one Franck own organ works. The Wagner boasts a similar approach from Paray in straightforward renditions of the more popular Wagner works. These are the early mono recordings and are better than any of the stereo remakes which came later. Hermann Scherchen Conductor Vienna Symphony Paul Paray Conductor Detroit Symphony	BEETHOVEN Symphony Nº 3 "Eroica"  LISZT: Les Préludes    The elusive but very superior Hermann Scherchen, Vienna Symphony recording of the "Eroica" at the outset of this CD casts aside his later stereo recording with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. It is muscular with sharp attacks and good brass and plenty of dynamic range for this early 1950's recording. To top off the Scherchen, the Paray Liszt Les Préludes which is quite similar in approach and also with good solid brass throughout.
