The LP issues from which these recordings were taken, demos some of the most careless master tape to LP mastering ever produced.  Gone are the sonics one would expect from a usual Dorati Mercury recording.  Seldom does this occur, thank heavens. The basic sound in the grooves is clean but dull with shifts in amplitude and a lack of bass.  There is more hidden here than meets the ear.  Our labor-of-love re-mastering has fixed these problems revealing how superior these performances are with that Dorati incisiveness making each performance worthy of the conductor, orchestra and LP label name.  The French horns? Glorious!  The tempos are well chosen and never does it get so hectic to the point where all the inner detail of these symphonies turns into the usual mush. This CD release is a good exposé of the skill of Eugene Ormandy as conductor in 1937 (Brahms) and in 1961 (Prokofiev).  An added bonus is a rare interview with Ormandy in 1967.  The Prokofiev recording is considered by consensus as one of Eugene Ormandy's triumphs although the sonic abrasiveness has been tamed with our now famous "labor of love" intensities.     The Brahms is heart-felt and well recorded for a RCA's 1937 effort.   The Prokofiev is IN STEREO  HQ MP3 PRO sample here
