ANTAL DORATI |
TCHAIKOVSKY: Symphony Nº 4 in F Minor, Op. 36 |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
This
recording comes to us from mid-1950's radio station white label,
promotional LP (first pressing with first stamper) in un-played
condition. It's white heat although on the distant side, showing
off the acoustics of the magnificent Concertgebouw all the
more. |

ANTAL DORATI |
STRAVINSKY: Rite of Spring (Le Sacre du Printemps) |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
The most raw, raucous, shameless, audacious and bold-faced "Sacre" recording ever to cross our path. Taken from a barely-played Mercury LP, this performance is totally Minneapolis, Dorati and Mercury of the early 1950's. It is a must-have old mono "Merc" CD transfer sounding better than ever. SERGE KOUSSEVITZKY |
MOZART: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, KV 525
Rec. 8/15/50 at Tanglewood |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
Sources are LPs in mint condition and carefully transferred to CD. This CD release fills more of the remaining gaps of Koussevitzky commercial recordings which never made it to the CD format. The Mozart KV 361 recording is the best sonic exposé of how magnificent the woodwinds of the BSO were during the mid 40's. HQ MP3 Sample here |

ARTHUR BALSAM, piano |
BEETHOVEN: Concerto for Piano and
Orchestra in D Major, Op. 61a |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
It's
the music of the familiar D major violin concerto but the violin is
replace by the piano. Cadenzas are by the composer but that
of the first movement is much more expansive in this piano
version. Arthur Balsam has been a cult figure for quite some time
now among informed musicians and this recording drives that idea home.
The Swiss Conductor, Clemens Dahinden and his orchestra offer strong and
sensitive backup for this famous and very rare recording. The
early 50's LP source is in near mint condition. |

ANTAL DORATI |
MOZART: Symphony Nº 36 in C Major, KV 425
(“Linz”) |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
Dorati has given us straightforward yet sensitive Mozart performances carefully transferred from a scarce stereo Mercury LP. As for the Schubert "Tragic", this recording still holds a place within the top three recordings of this work ever made available within the last 50 years. It's not pushed letting this great Schubert symphony speak for itself. All taken from mint "FR 1" Mercury LP pressings. IN STEREO HQ MP3 Sample here |

ANTAL DORATI |
BEETHOVEN: Symphony Nº 4 in B-flat
Major, Op. 60 |
$12.00
per CD |

The
LP issues from which these recordings were taken demos some of the most
careless master tape to LP mastering ever produced. Gone are the
sonics one would expect from a usual Dorati Mercury recording.
Seldom does this occur, thank heavens. The basic sound in the grooves is
clean but dull with shifts in amplitude and a lack of bass. There is
more hidden here than meets the ear. Our labor-of-love
re-mastering has fixed these problems revealing how superior these
performances are with that Dorati incisiveness making each performance
worthy of the conductor, orchestra and LP label name. The
French horns in the 7th? Glorious! The tempos are well chosen and
never does it get so hectic to the point where all the inner detail of
these symphonies turns into the usual mush. |
