RUDOLF MORALT |
MOZART: Mass in C Minor
|
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
Truly a wonderful recording of Mozart's best setting of the Mass. For this recording additions were made to complete the work as determined by tradition as to what Mozart actually used himself to give a complete performance and show off his new Viennese bride to Salzburg by was of this incredible music. His wife, Constanza was a soprano of talent as the solos of the C Minor Mass demand. Teresa Stitch-Randall is the soprano in this recording and demonstrates that singing this music should be a prayer instead of an opera aria. It is enough to make any listener repent. The recording is dated but the transfer is a labor of love. The other soloist are Hilde Rössl-Majdan, Waldemar Kmentt and Walter Raninger. Sections used to complete the mass are taken from Mozart's Mass in C K. 262. HQ MP3 Sample here |

EDUARD VAN BEINUM |
RAVEL: Bolero, La Valse |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
Recorded in the mid and late 1950's, this CD release features Eduard van Beinum conducting Ravel's most familiar orchestral works but in interpretations that go far beyond the ordinary. Woodwind playing is spectacular with that COA sound that we all want to hear. The Mussorgsky with Haitink is splendid from beginning to end. Highly recommended. IN STEREO HQ MP3 Sample here |

LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI |
SAINT-SAËNS: Samson et Dalila (Hightlights) |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
This release boast some of the best mono sound RCA ever achieved with - as they say - the single mic technique. Recorded in Manhattan Center, NYC, we hear the NBC captured with good acoustics for a change. Stokowski pulls out all the stops here with a finale that is unbelievable. The soloists' singing is what you would expect although Peerce's French leaves much to the imagination, and Risë Stevens demos that wonderful voice with deep ovetones in her entire range. Unfortunately for us, the entire opera was was never recorded, only these highlights exist. The chorus is the "icing on the cake." A tour de force on all fronts. HQ MP3 Sample here |

CHARLES MUNCH |
TCHAIKOVSKY: Violin Concerto in D
Major, Nathan Milstein, violin |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
Two
great recordings on one CD. This Munch/BSO Milstein recording set
a standard for playing in 1953. The recording's dynamic range,
although acceptable did not convey Munch's intentions much. This release
is a vast improvement of the sound taken from a "Plum Shaded
Dog" RCA release in mint condition. The Szell.CO/Firkusny is a very
scarce LP and is the only commercial recording Szell ever made of this
wonderful Dvorak Concerto. A mint "six eye"
Columbia pressing is the source of this transfer, with honest, robust
Severance Hall acoustics faithfully
captured. |

MUCK, KOUSSEVITZKY, |
75th Anniversary Musical History of
the Boston Symphony & Boston Pops |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
We came across an un-played-condition LP recently of this 98¢ classic RCA Victor LP issue of 1955. (Our old copy, purchased in 1955, looks like an LP used as a beach frisbee!) It's a first rank nostalgia trip for us and hopefully it will be for you too and it's very informative with many musical BSO and BPO excerpts. Sonics have been improved throughout. The narration is amusing and priceless with Cross' "toidy toid street accent Fiedler's "Haahvid yaahd" accents. If you have not ever heard this LP you are in for an hour of fun listening. You may very well ask this question: What has happened to the the BSO? HQ MP3 Sample here |

ATAULFO ARGENTA |
MUSIC OF SPAIN: Preludes and
Intermezzi of Zarsuelas (operettas) |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
Certainly the best and most captivating
performances of this wonderful music. It's a change of pace but what a
change it is. After working on this CD we felt that tickets for a
plane to Spain is a must. Don't overlook this CD
release. |

ZDENEK KOSLER |
DVORAK: Symphony Nº 7 in D Minor |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
Recorded in the Dvorak Hall of the
Rudolfinum in 1964. Kosler holds back the tempi, creating a
dramatic effect that is immense in concept with a dynamic range that
sets it apart from all the others. One
of the most deliberate yet intense performances of the Dvorak 7th ever recorded.
This is a Czech Philharmonic "must have" recording. |

ERICH LEINSDORF |
HAYDN: Symphony Nº 94 in G
Major 'Surprise' |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
Early Leinsdorf in Rochester. Recorded in the Eastman Theatre with exceptional sound for the early 1950's and transferred to CD from a sealed CBS Harmony LP. The transfer is the first play of this disc! The "Surprise" is similar in tempi to the controversial Toscanini / NBC recording of same. HQ MP3 Sample here |

FERENC SZEKERES |
HAYDN: The Appointment of a Conductor - Cantata |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
A wonderful recording in very good sound, filled with superb singing
from soloists and choir. Do not avoid this release as it is
humorous, lively and very well played. A must for any
thoughtful Haydn collector. |

RAYMOND LEPPARD |
FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
This
Leppard Haydn 39th is certainly within the top 3 recordings of this
work. We would place it at the top. Why Harry Newstone
recorded but 2 Haydn Symphonies is indeed a puzzlement. He should
have been given a free hand in recording many more. This is
another Haydn release worthy of Haydn House and your collection
too. |

|
SZYMON GOLDBERG |
FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN |
$12.00
per CD |
|
|
We released the Haydn 44 and 57 but came across the 83 more recently. Now all three of the Szymon Goldberg Haydn recordings are together for the first time on one CD. Recorded in the acoustically perfect Concertgebouw and boasting Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra members in this Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. Wonderful performances on all fronts. Superb transfers too. IN STEREO |

NEVILLE MARRINER |
FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN |
$12.00

Of all the Haydn Symphonies recordings with Neville Marriner Nº 52 never made it to CD for some dumb reason. Here is is with those prominent "octave above" horns, creating that authentic and necessary effect. The Guschlbauer efforts are A+ with a superb orchestra. IN STEREO |
