BRUCH: Violin Concerto Nº 1 in G Minor
Yehudi Menuhin, violin
MENDELSSOHN: Symphony Nº 4 in A, "ITALIAN"

$12.00 per CD

Incredible performances and transfers of these very popular  works.  Charles  Munch, Yehudi Menuhin and the BSO Give us a performance of the 1951 recording  of the Bruch Concerto that is top notch.   Koussevitzky and the BSO  let loose  again but this time in the 1947 Carnegie Hall recording of the Mendelssohn "Italian".  In Carnegie Hall, the BSO sounds similar to the NBC under Toscanini until Roger Voisin blares forth in the heralds at the end of the first movement.   HQ MP3 sample here

RACHMANINOV: Vocalise
RIMSKY-KORSAKOFF: The Battle of Kershenetz
MUSSORGSKY: Prelude to Khovanschina

$12.00 per CD

The elusive 1949 BSO/Koussevitzky recording of the Tchaikovsky 4th transferred to CD from a 1st Edition RCA Victor LP.  The original sound is typical of the RCA era but improved greatly in terms of dynamic range  and overall sound.  This is considered the best of the several session recordings of Koussevitzky conducting this familiar Tchaikovky symphony. The Rachmaninov is splendid and boasts the lush string section of the BSO in 1945.  The other works were recorded in the 1930's and were transferred from new-condition, RCA Victor 78's.

Serge Koussevitzky, Conductor
Boston Symphony

BEETHOVEN: Symphony 3, in E flat Major Op. 55
(the 1945 RCA recording)

Boston Symphony

HAYDN: Symphony 94 in G, "SURPRISE"
MENDELSSOHN: Symphony
  4 in A, "ITALIAN"

Incredible performances and the best transfers of these very popular symphonies. Koussevitzky and the BSO let loose in both works and matched by some very decent sound for this 1929 "Surprise" and 1935 "Italian".  Both were recorded in Symphony Hall, Boston.   HQ MP3 collage sample  here

TCHAIKOVSKY: Symphony Nº 7 in E Flat Major
FROM REEL-TO-REEL STEREO TAPE

$12.00 per CD

Here Here it is once again. The patched together Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 7! It's a mid 1950's creation from fragments left by the composer which were used in other works such as the 3rd. Piano Concerto and other short works and  orchestrated into a symphony by Semyon Bogatyryev.  I must say that the ending does not fall short considering what could easily be a Khrushchev-Soviet,  political, musical,  mindset.    A best seller!   HQ MP3 sample here

Incredible on all fronts!  Ruggiero Ricci, known as the violinist's violinist.  brings  to us performances that are far beyond the usual.  Adding to these treasures of Paganini and Saint-Saëns is sensitive and sensible backup by Max Rudolf and the Cincinnati Symphony.  Even more! -  the stereo sound is full-bodied and spacious. The Herman Krebbers recording is simply beyond belief.  Who is better?  Ricci or Krebber?  The sound is very good and demands no more.    This CD deserves your attention!
