$12.00 per CD

Two more 1950's mono recordings music played by the NY Philharmonic and the Columbia Symphony - mostly likely the NYC Ballet Orchestra - with Efrem Kurtz conducting.  These are engaging interpretations and worthy of any CD collection.  It is all  ballet music with a kind of let's have fun approach and the conductors brings the orchestra forth, willing and certainly able. Good sound but vastly improved on this CD.   HQ MP3 PRO sample here

EDWARD MacDOWELL

Piano Concerto Nº 2 in D minor, Op. 23 / Jesús María Sanromá, piano
HOWARD HANSON
Symphony Nº 2, Op. 30 ‘Romantic’
Piano Concerto in G major, Op. 36 / Rudolf Firkusny, piano
EDVARD GRIEG
     Holberg Suite, Op. 40

$20.00 per 2 CD Set

This  2 CD set includes  recordings  that appeared on Columbia back in the early 1950's and features music we can best associate with Hanson and his Eastman-Rochester Orchestra.  The aural perspective is somewhat different from the later Mercury releases.  The Hanson "Romantic Symphony" is is less "in our ears" and can give us a good idea of what the acoustics are really like in the Eastman Theatre.  The MacDowell Concerto is the tragically neglected work of this set and is in the very best of hands with Hanson and Jesús María Sanromá, pianist.

GERMAN MARCH ALONG - 24 Marches  IN STEREO

Musikorp 6 der Bundeswehr, Hamburg

GERMAN BAND MARCHES  IN MONO WITH SLIGHT STEREO EFFECT
        Nord Deutsche Grosse Blasorchester

$12.00 per CD

How about 24 mostly German Marches all hitched together in perfect marching cadence for that determined walking workout without waiting for the next march to begin.   There are no major shortcuts either in this vast array of marching music.  Need music for your backyard German Beer Fest? Look no further. To fit it all on one LP, a drastic cut in bass and a strange EQ were forced.  We fixed all that, and added some dynamic range  to make it all the more realistic.  The Hamburg band has a strong lower brass section.  The other band plays 12 more marches to fill up the CD in fine fashion.  There are no duplications any marches.  Send an email to us at HaydnHouse@comcast.net  for a full list of the the titles.   HQ MP3 PRO sample here

REGER: Piano Concerto in F Minor

$12.00 per CD

Max Reger's late romantic music can be called a bridge between Brahms or maybe Bruckner and the moderns like Schoenberg and Berg.  The second movement seems to come from a Brahms sketch book and has musical   expression similar to the third movement of Brahms own 2nd Piano Concerto and quotes almost exactly the last measures of Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto (2nd movement) It's lush music worthy of more exposure.  Reger's Concerto was composed in 1910/11. The collaboration seems perfect here with Rosbaud firmly in control of it all.  This was transferred from an clean Odeon LP of the early 1950's and the sound is quite good.

PISTON:  Symphony Nº 3
HANSON:  Symphony Nº 4 "Requiem"
HANSON: Four Psalms
- Gene Boucher, baritone

$12.00 per CD

Here at last, after many requests!  These works and performances are incredible giving us the best reason secure perfect LPs to make the transfers to CD.  A good customer obliged and now all of you can enjoy this.  The rather aggressive upper end treble was tamed to an overall more natural sound but not completely so the Mercury sound could be faithfully heard on the CD.   The dynamic range is present day.  M. Boucher is a very good baritone.

BRAHMS: Violin Concerto in D major , Julian Olevsky, violin
SHOSTAKOVICH: Symphony  Nº 1

These recordings come to us from Westminster.  Howard Mitchell was in Washington for 20 years.  Olevsky plays the Brahms Concerto  in superb fashion and the NSO is in top shape throughout.   High Quality MP PRO sample here

COPLAND:  Symphony Nº 3

$12.00 per CD

Early 1950's Mercury mono recording, and the very best of this neglected Copland work.  "The visceral, gut-wrenching lower brass" (Bert Whyte) is unmatched  and captured perfectly with that single mic Mercury recording technique.  This is truly another must have CD release.  The dynamic range is present day.   High Quality MP PRO sample here

Eugene Ormandy,

Philadelphia Orchestra

PROKOFIEV
Symphony Nº 4 in C major, Op. 112  (second version)

$12.00 per CD

This is an early stereo release of Ormandy's legendary recording of Prokofiev's 4th Symphony.  Problems of sound, channel balance and EQ have been worked out to produce almost new sound  of this performance.   It is Ormandy and his orchestra at their finest.

The Oceanides,  Symphonic Poem for Orchestra, Op. 73
Tapiola,  Symphonic Poem for Orchestra, Op. 112

$12.00 per CD

These are the earlier and far more successful mono recordings, considered by consensus to be the top recordings ever of these  Sibelius masterworks!  Ormandy always had a strong approach with this music with plenty of brass and dynamic range for 1955.  All recorded in the Academy of Music.   If you have our CD of the SIBELIUS Lemminkäinen Suite (see catalog  p. 14) this new CD makes a great addition.  The transfer was made from a mint quality Columbia "6 eye" LP.

PROKOFIEV: Piano Concerto Nº 1 in D flat major, Op. 10

BARTÓK: Concerto for Orchestra

$12.00 per CD

Taken from rare off-the-air tapes of the Prague Spring Festival of 1967.  Both performances are unique in every respect.  Please note that the Bartok recording has occasional sonic problems   but the overall sound is good and the effect of this work with Celibidache is a revelation.  The Ancerl performance has the better sound and with no tape flaws.  It is preferred over the commercial recording of same with a different pianist.   Both recorded at the Smetana Hall, Prague.
