The Royal Philharmonic (jacketed as the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of London ) recording of  "The Military" is the only Scherchen recording of any Haydn Symphony recorded as part of the famous Westminster LAB series and is not released elsewhere.   Both the Haydn and Danzi  Sinfonia Concertante were recorded in June of 1965.

This Hollreiser recording, made in the late 50's, boasts some very unusual phrasing along with brass and woodwind playing that can only add to what you already know about this music.  It is filled with suspense and drama.  Violins are placed left and right for antiphonal effects.  Certainly among the top 5 recordings of this popular music.

Here two recordings which helped put Willem van Otterloo on the map in the US.  Both issued in the early 1950's on yellow label Epic LP.  The Franck D Minor is a "white heat" performance.     The Saint-Saëns  is a rendering that will leave you breathless. Only live BSO/Munch performances could surpass in certain sections.
