This Hollreiser recording, made in the late 50's, boasts some very unusual phrasing along with brass and woodwind playing that can only add to what you already know about this music.  It is filled with suspense and drama.  Violins are placed left and right for antiphonal effects.  Certainly among the top 5 recordings of this popular music.

Willem van Otterloo, Conductor

FRANCK: Symphony in D Minor
SAINT-SANS: Symphony N 3 in C Minor "organ"
Feika Asma, organist

$10.95 per CD
MONO

Here two recordings which helped put Willem van Otterloo on the map in the US.  Both issued in the early 1950's on yellow label Epic LP.  The Franck D Minor is a "white heat" performance.     The Saint-Sans  is a rendering that will leave you breathless. Only live BSO/Munch performances could surpass in certain sections.

Eugene Ormandy, Conductor
Philadelphia Orchestra

RICHARD STRAUSS: Don Quixote
(Lorne Munroe, cello and Harry Zaratzian, viola)
CLAUDE DEBUSSY: Iberia

$10.95 per CD
MONO

After receiving several request to issue the Debussy, we came across an equally pristine "6 eye" Columbia pressing of the Strauss.  Both have been carefully transferred with utmost care.  These recordings date from the early 1950's and were recorded in the Academy of Music in Philadelphia.  Eugene Ormandy and his orchestra.    A BEST SELLER!

Erich Leinsdorf, Conductor
Boston Symphony

HAYDN: Symphony N 93 in D Major
HAYDN: Symphony N 96 in D Major ("Miracle")

$10.95 per CD
STEREO

If there was ever one Leinsdorf /BSO which should have been always available and transferred to CD by the parent company it is this one. The performances are magical, superbly played with full-bodied sound, performances of Haydn of very special merit.  It is tragic that Leinsdorf did not record more Haydn with the BSO.

SIBELIUS:
Symphony N 4 in A Minor, Op. 63
Symphony N 5 in E Flat, Op. 82

$10.95 per CD
MONO

Some Sibelius experts insist that this recording of the 5th is the best ever! The enigmatic 4th finally makes more sense under Ormandy's direction with an orchestra that is very much at home with this music, responding with all the brilliance and lushness one would expect from such forces. Newly remastered in August, 2009 with more punch in the crescendi among other sonic improvements.

Eduard van Beinum
Conductor
Concertgebouw
Orchestra, Amsterdam

SCHUBERT: Symphony N 9 in C Major ("Great")
BRAHMS: Tragic Overture
BRAHMS: Academic Festival Overture

$10.95 per CD
MONO

The Brahms Overtures are coupled with a totally re-mastered and restored Schubert 9th taken from a live concert performance which is very unique and very classical in approach. This CD is another "must have issue" and blessed with our "labor of love" care and admiration only worthy of van Beinum and his orchestra. The Brahms overtures are the early 1950's London/Decca recordings.
